KUCHING – In a move to reinforce cooperation among Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties, the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch paid a courtesy visit to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) N9 Padungan this morning.
The meeting provided a platform for both parties to exchange perspectives on grassroots organisational development, community issues and coordination of activities ahead of the upcoming Sarawak State Election. The session also served to strengthen communication and collaboration between GPS partners.
Leading the SUPP Kuching Branch delegation was Acting Chairman Jong Yean Pin. He was accompanied by Acting Secretary Cr Nicholas Wung Duk Ying, who also serves as SUPP Youth Chief of Kuching Branch, Captain Lucas Yong, Secretary of Organisation, Jong Zhen Xiang, Assistant Secretary of Information and Publicity, and Captain Kho Phek Choo, Chairman of JKKK Sekama, Lumba Kuda and Jalan Datuk Tan Sri William Tan.
During the discussions, both parties explored proposals to organise more joint community programmes in the future. These initiatives aim to strengthen networks among the elderly, youth and women’s movements, thereby expanding the reach of programmes that benefit local communities. Such efforts are expected to enhance grassroots strength and build public confidence in GPS.
In preparation for the state election, the parties also deliberated on mechanisms for coordinating cooperation in the constituencies. They agreed that GPS component parties must continue to uphold unity, trust and collaboration, while effectively coordinating resources to ensure political stability in Sarawak. The coalition’s collective strength, they noted, is vital to driving economic growth and improving the well-being of the people.
The session also included introductions to the organisational structures of both branches, with updates shared on grassroots progress. Views were exchanged on the current situation in Padungan, with particular attention given to community needs in the Lumba Kuda area. The dialogue highlighted the importance of improving service delivery and ensuring that local development initiatives meet the needs of residents.
As a gesture of goodwill, Acting Chairman Jong Yean Pin presented a basket of fruits to PBB Padungan Branch Chairman YB Rodiyah. The meeting concluded with a commemorative photo session, symbolising the close relationship between the two parties.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong ties and working together to realise GPS’s vision of people-centred development. The collaboration is seen as a step towards ensuring a brighter future for Padungan, Kuching and Sarawak as a whole.
