The intervention followed a public report concerning the presence of the nest in a mango tree near a residential property. Three APM members were deployed to the site after the call was received.

Upon arrival, the team conducted an inspection and discovered a stinging fly nest about the size of an adult’s palm, located approximately five feet above ground level.

Using appropriate equipment, the responders safely removed and destroyed the nest. Authorities confirmed that the operation was completed without incident, ensuring the safety of residents in the area.

Stinging flies, known for their aggressive behaviour when disturbed, can pose risks to communities, particularly when nests are situated close to homes. Their stings may cause painful reactions and, in some cases, severe allergic responses.

This latest case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of APM in addressing environmental hazards.

In recent weeks, similar operations have been conducted across Sarawak, including the destruction of wasp nests in Serian and the removal of other insect threats near residential areas.

Each intervention demonstrates the organisation’s readiness to act swiftly in safeguarding public health and safety.

Officials emphasised that residents should not attempt to remove insect nests themselves, as such actions can provoke swarms and lead to dangerous situations.

Instead, the public is encouraged to contact emergency services immediately when encountering such hazards.

The Civil Defence Force continues to operate under its guiding principle of “Ready, Fast & With Integrity”, reflecting its commitment to professionalism and efficiency.

District-level teams such as APM Saratok remain crucial in ensuring rapid intervention, particularly in rural communities where immediate access to specialised pest control services may be limited.

Local authorities have reminded residents that emergency services are available around the clock. For urgent cases, members of the public in Saratok and surrounding districts can reach the Civil Defence Force at 082711292.

As Sarawak strengthens its emergency response framework, incidents like this demonstrate the value of preparedness and the dedication of frontline personnel.

The destruction of the stinging fly nest in Kampung Bunga Raya serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of environmental hazards and the importance of swift, coordinated action to protect communities.
