BAU – Emergency response personnel were mobilised early this morning following reports of a hazardous insect infestation discovered at a local utility corporate building.
The Bau District Civil Defence Force (APM) swung into action to neutralise a potentially dangerous situation involving a significant pest hazard located on commercial premises, ensuring the safety of workers and the general public in the vicinity.
The District Operation Control Centre (PKOD) logged an urgent distress call from a member of the public at exactly 8:05 AM. The informant reported the presence of a sizeable wasp nest, classified under institutional protocols as an MSS (hazardous animal) emergency case.
The nest was discovered at the main Sarawak Energy (Sesco) office building within the Bau township, prompting immediate coordination from emergency dispatchers.
Upon receiving the alert, a specialised team of civil defence responders was immediately deployed to the utility office. Armed with defensive personal protective equipment and specific elimination gear, the personnel arrived at the scene to assess the structural position of the nest.
Operations of this nature require meticulous handling to prevent the displaced insects from swarming and attacking workers or nearby pedestrians.
The team successfully contained the threat by executing standard hazardous animal removal procedures, utilising specialised techniques to neutralise the nest safely without causing disruption to the surrounding corporate operations.
Following the successful removal, the emergency personnel conducted a thorough sweep of the building’s exterior perimeter to guarantee that no secondary nests or residual environmental risks remained.
Wasp infestations in public and commercial areas pose a severe health risk, as stings can trigger severe allergic reactions or anaphylactic shock in vulnerable individuals.
The prompt intervention by the emergency team prevented any injuries or medical emergencies from occurring at the busy utility hub, allowing regular administrative operations to continue safely.
In light of the incident, APM Bau has reminded the local community to remain vigilant and avoid attempting to handle venomous insect nests or hazardous wildlife without professional assistance.
The agency emphasised that attempting DIY removals of wasp nests can lead to aggressive swarming behaviour, which significantly heightens the danger to untrained residents.
The department highlighted that its operational control centres remain fully staffed and ready to respond to diverse non-military emergencies, ranging from pest disruptions to natural disasters and medical rescues.
Local authorities continue to urge the public to utilise official communication channels immediately whenever public safety is compromised by environmental or wildlife hazards.
Residents encountering similar wildlife emergencies, hazardous infestations, or any urgent crises within the district are strongly encouraged to contact the dedicated Bau Civil Defence line directly at 082-762925.
Alternatively, members of the public can reach out through the standard national emergency services hotline by dialling 999 for immediate statutory assistance.
