APM Kapit Rescues Injured Driver After Solo Road Accident

KAPIT – A motorist survived a harrowing road accident yesterday after losing control of his vehicle along a rural transit route, triggering a rapid emergency response from local medical and civil defence teams. The Kapit District Civil Defence Force (APM) deployed a rescue squad to the scene to provide critical pre-hospital treatment before evacuating the casualty to the nearest medical facility.

The traffic incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon in the vicinity of Sempaling Baleh, a rural stretch located within the Kapit district. The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) in Kapit officially logged the emergency call at 2:43 PM. Interestingly, the distress alert was forwarded directly by the local hospital administration, which had received initial word of the crash and requested immediate tactical support from civil defence responders.

According to the official accident chronology, the mishap occurred when the adult male driver suddenly lost control of his vehicle while navigating the Sempaling Baleh roadway. The vehicle careened off its path, resulting in a severe impact that left the driver trapped and injured. A specialized rescue unit consisting of four lower-rank personnel (LLP) was immediately dispatched from the Kapit base to render urgent assistance.

Upon arriving at the specified coordinates, the four-man APM emergency crew discovered the driver inside the vehicle. Fortunately, the victim remained fully conscious despite suffering significant physical trauma. A rapid medical assessment conducted by the responders at the scene revealed that the man had sustained a fractured right leg alongside minor lacerations and bleeding around his mouth.

The civil defence personnel immediately administered stabilization measures and pre-hospital first aid to address the fractures and wounds, preventing further internal injuries. Following the initial stabilization, the agency’s Alpha Squad carefully transferred the conscious casualty into an emergency transport vehicle. The team evacuated the victim directly to the local hospital to undergo comprehensive diagnostic imaging and follow-up surgical treatment.

With the casualty safely handed over to hospital trauma staff, the four civil defence personnel gathered their medical gear and returned to their base operations. The entire rescue mission was executed smoothly, with the control centre confirming that the responding officers arrived back at the Kapit headquarters safely with all specialized equipment accounted for and fully operational.

Road accidents along the undulating and often challenging terrain of the Kapit interior present significant logistical challenges for emergency services, making rapid coordination between hospitals and civil defence units essential. Authorities frequently remind motorists navigating these rural sectors to exercise extreme caution, adhere strictly to speed limits, and maintain vehicle roadworthiness to prevent single-vehicle lane departures.

The public relations division of the Kapit APM took the opportunity to advise residents and travelers to save local emergency contacts on their mobile devices. The agency emphasized that early reporting of traffic collisions significantly improves the survival rate of victims by reducing the turnaround time for emergency medical technicians to arrive at remote crash sites.

Members of the public who witness vehicular accidents, experience natural hazards, or encounter any critical emergencies within the Kapit region are strongly urged to contact the authorities without delay. The APM Kapit District Operations Control Centre operates on a 24-hour rotation and can be reached via the standard national emergency line at 999 or through their dedicated local hotline at 084-796330.
