BINTULU – A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme focused on marine habitat restoration was held this morning in the waters of Kuala Nyalau, Bintulu.
The initiative, known as the Tukun Bebola (Reef Ball) Port programme, is a joint effort between Pembinaan Tukun Bebola (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. (PTBSB) and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), with support from Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB).
The event was officiated by YB Datuk Majang Anak Renggi, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Port Development) and Assemblyman for N.70 Samalaju.
His presence underscored the importance of the initiative in promoting sustainable marine ecosystems along Sarawak’s coastline.
Also attending were senior representatives from the involved organisations, including Mr Abang Arabi Abang Aimran, General Manager of Sarawak Forestry Corporation; Dato Mejar Ruslan bin Abdul Ghani, President and Group CEO of Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad; Mr Sufri bin Haji Bohari, CEO of Samalaju Industrial Port Sdn Bhd; and Mr Wilson Anak Mapus, CEO of Pembinaan Tukun Bebola (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.
Other key figures included Mr Bolhi bin Maskawi, Senior General Manager for Group Safety, Security & Sustainability, alongside Deputy General Managers Mr Hj Madhan bin Kiflie and Mr Japanie bin Bujang from Sarawak Forestry Corporation.
During the programme, 80 units of Tukun Bebola were deployed into the waters, comprising 26 Ultra Balls, 46 Bay Balls, and 8 Layer Cake units.
These artificial reef structures are designed to restore marine habitats, serve as physical barriers to deter illegal trawling activities, and support an increase in coastal fishermen’s catches.
Since 2022, PTBSB has contributed a total of 467 Tukun Bebola units across Sarawak’s marine areas in efforts to preserve the region’s aquatic biodiversity.
The deployment in Kuala Nyalau marks a continuation of these conservation efforts, which aim to balance ecological preservation with local economic benefits.
Furthermore, YB Datuk Majang Anak Renggi received a detailed briefing from BPHB on the port’s development plans, highlighting a broader commitment to sustainable infrastructure growth in the region.
This collaborative programme reflects the growing emphasis on environmental stewardship within Sarawak’s infrastructure and port development sectors, showcasing how public and private partnerships can address ecological challenges while supporting community livelihoods.
