Sarawak General Hospital Gains 17 New Chairs from MBKS CSR Drive

KUCHING – The Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) Emergency Department has received a donation of 17 treatment and waiting chairs from the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), aimed at improving patient comfort and easing the experience of family members awaiting treatment.

The contribution, valued at RM12,000, was made under MBKS’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

It comprised seven treatment chairs and 10 waiting chairs, responding directly to a request from the hospital for additional facilities.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the donation was made possible through the generosity of local companies and the community’s concern for healthcare needs.

“Sometimes something that seems simple like a chair actually makes a big difference,” he remarked during the handover ceremony at the hospital on Monday.

Dato Wee described the donation as a meaningful gesture in conjunction with the Christmas season, while acknowledging that public hospitals still face many challenges.

He stressed that improvements are needed not only for patients but also for doctors, nurses and family members who spend long hours in hospital environments.

The initiative was supported by several private companies, including Katimas Sdn Bhd, Acute Project Sdn Bhd, Sharing Planet Sdn Bhd, Megastanda Sdn Bhd, Ori Pasti Ori (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, Alfresco (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, HS Credit Corporation Sdn Bhd and Wan Li Wan Welding Works. Their collaboration reflects the growing role of CSR in strengthening community welfare.

Hospital Director Dr. Ngian Hie Ung expressed gratitude to MBKS and the donors, noting that while federal allocations are provided annually, the hospital’s actual needs remain extensive.

“Small contributions from the community can have a big impact on patient comfort,” he said, adding that continuous support from various parties is essential to enhance facilities and technology.

The donation highlights the importance of community partnerships in healthcare, where even modest contributions can significantly improve the treatment environment.

For HUS, the new chairs are expected to ease congestion in the Emergency Department and provide greater comfort for patients and their families.

This initiative underscores MBKS’s commitment to community welfare and demonstrates how local collaboration can complement government efforts in addressing healthcare needs.
