MIRI – The Valuation, Taxation and Strata Management Division of Miri City Council (MBM) carried out the “Sentuhan Kasih RVSM” outreach programme on 21 August 2026, visiting four charitable organisations supporting communities in Miri.
The initiative was aimed at strengthening engagement between the council and organisations involved in providing assistance and services to people in need.
As part of the programme, MBM representatives visited four organisations and presented donations in the form of basic necessities.
The recipients were Kenosis Sarawak Miri Branch, Palliative Care Association (Miri), Darul Ehsan Mosque and the Hamidah Yakup Welfare Complex, Miri.
The visits provided an opportunity for council representatives to learn more about the work carried out by each organisation. Representatives of the organisations gave briefings on their respective functions, roles and charitable activities.
The discussions also allowed MBM representatives to gain a better understanding of the needs of organisations working directly with members of the local community.
The council said the programme was intended to go beyond the presentation of contributions by creating opportunities for closer engagement with charitable groups.
Such interaction provides a platform for the council to understand the challenges faced by organisations involved in community welfare.
Charitable organisations play a role in supporting people and families who require assistance, with their activities covering different areas of community welfare. Their work can complement wider efforts to address the needs of vulnerable members of society.
The “Sentuhan Kasih RVSM” programme therefore served both a social and engagement function, allowing the council’s division to meet representatives of the organisations and observe some of the work being carried out in the community.
The initiative was also positioned as part of MBM’s efforts to strengthen relationships with community organisations.
Continued communication between local authorities and charitable groups can help improve understanding of local needs and the services available to residents.
Among those present during the programme were Miri Deputy Mayor YBhg. Tuan Haji Ariffin bin Mohamad, Councillor Saliha binti Basri and MBM City Assessment Officer Puan Monica Lenya.
The council expressed hope that similar initiatives could be strengthened and continued as part of its engagement with charitable organisations in Miri.
MBM said such programmes could provide opportunities to support the work of community-based organisations while maintaining closer relationships with groups involved in welfare and charitable activities.
The four organisations visited during the programme represent different areas of community support, providing MBM with an opportunity to hear directly from those involved in assisting residents.
The presentation of basic necessities was also intended to provide practical support to the organisations as they continue their respective activities.
The council’s outreach effort reflects an approach that combines community engagement with support for organisations working with people in need.
It also provides an avenue for public-sector representatives to better understand the contribution of charitable groups within Miri.
MBM said it remains hopeful that cooperation with charitable organisations can continue to develop, supporting efforts to improve community well-being and strengthen relationships between the council and local welfare groups.
