KUCHING – A twenty-one-year-old motorcyclist has lost his life following a severe road collision in the Padawan district. The incident occurred on the evening of 28 July 2026 along Jalan Mambong-Sikog-Sariq, in the vicinity of Puncak Borneo Prison.
Emergency services and police personnel responded to the scene at approximately 6:15 pm. Upon arrival, they found a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a motorcycle involved in the crash. The motorcyclist, a local man aged twenty-one, was pronounced dead at the scene by a attending Medical Officer. Despite the severity of the impact, the driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle, a forty-two-year-old local man, escaped without sustaining any injuries.
The vehicle involved in the accident was identified as a Mitsubishi Triton. The motorcycle was a Yamaha 135LC model. Preliminary investigations suggest that the two vehicles collided under circumstances that are currently being scrutinised by authorities. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been publicly disclosed, pending the completion of forensic analysis and witness statements.
The Padawan District Police Headquarters has launched a formal investigation into the matter. The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to reckless or dangerous driving causing death. This section of the act carries severe penalties for those found guilty, reflecting the seriousness with which such incidents are treated by the legal system.
Police officials have appealed to the public for assistance in their inquiries.
