KUCHING – The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) continued its Monthly Buy Back Campaign on Saturday, 11 July 2026, at the parking area of Matang Mall.
Running from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon, the initiative once again provided residents with an opportunity to participate in sustainable practices by exchanging recyclable materials for cash incentives.
The Buy Back Campaign, a regular programme under MPP’s environmental agenda, aims to encourage households and businesses to adopt recycling habits while reducing waste sent to landfills.
By offering financial rewards for recyclables such as paper, plastics, aluminium cans, and electronic waste, the council hopes to instil a culture of sustainability among the community.
Officials highlighted that the campaign has grown steadily in participation since its introduction, with more residents recognising the importance of waste segregation and recycling.
The initiative also supports Sarawak’s broader environmental goals, aligning with state-level strategies to promote green living and reduce carbon footprints.
The campaign is part of MPP’s wider commitment to community engagement. By hosting monthly events at accessible locations such as Matang Mall, the council ensures that residents can conveniently take part in recycling efforts.
The programme also serves as an educational platform, raising awareness about the environmental impact of improper waste disposal and the benefits of resource recovery.
Local authorities noted that the Buy Back Campaign complements other sustainability initiatives, including awareness workshops, school outreach programmes, and collaborations with non-governmental organisations. Together, these efforts aim to build a more environmentally conscious society in Padawan and beyond.
The July campaign once again demonstrated strong community support, with residents arriving early to contribute recyclables. Organisers expressed appreciation for the public’s commitment, noting that consistent participation is key to achieving long-term environmental goals.
MPP has encouraged residents to continue supporting the campaign in future months, reminding them that small actions collectively make a significant difference.
The council reaffirmed its dedication to expanding the initiative, exploring ways to include more categories of recyclables and enhance convenience for participants.
The Buy Back Campaign is expected to remain a cornerstone of MPP’s sustainability agenda, reinforcing the message that environmental responsibility begins at the community level.
