OceanXplorer, equipped with cutting-edge technology, serves as a floating research, media, and education hub. OceanX aims to explore the ocean while promoting education and conservation through its groundbreaking missions.

“I believe OceanXplorer’s maiden visit will enhance Sabah’s reputation as a top tourist destination. This mission will include collaborations with local scientists and institutions such as Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS),” said Liew.

Sabah is renowned for its UNESCO Triple Crown accolades, which include Kinabalu Park as a UNESCO Global Geopark, globally recognised for its immense biodiversity. “OceanX’s proposal could contribute to scientific progress, education, and tourism,” Liew added.

During a recent meeting with OceanX’s Asia Pacific (APAC) head of Science Partnerships, Dr. Felicia Shaw, and partnerships manager, Zi Jin Wong, the team outlined plans for collaboration with local scientists and students. Shangri-La Rasa Ria Kota Kinabalu’s General Manager Fiona Hagan, a sustainability advocate, also participated in the discussions.
