SANTUBONG – The Santubong Friendly Neighbourhood (KJM) has launched the “Exploring the Beach and Finding the Treasures of Santubong (Briskwalk)” programme, designed to empower the community through appreciation of local heritage and the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices.
Held in Kampung Santubong, the initiative introduced participants to historical sites and cultural landmarks while encouraging physical activity.
The briskwalk route allowed residents to explore the village environment and reflect on the historical values embedded in the area.
Organisers explained that the programme was not only about exercise but also about strengthening community bonds and fostering a deeper sense of responsibility for preserving heritage and the natural environment.
By combining recreational activity with cultural education, the event aimed to inspire participants to value both their health and their surroundings.
The briskwalk was implemented in collaboration with several organisations, including the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), Biro Wanita, and PITSA.
Together, these groups worked to ensure the success of the programme, which was designed to deliver positive impacts on community development.
Community leaders highlighted that such initiatives serve as platforms to build friendships, strengthen neighbourhood spirit, and promote environmental stewardship.
They stressed that the programme reflects Santubong’s commitment to nurturing unity while showcasing its rich cultural and natural heritage.
Santubong, known for its historical significance and scenic beauty, has long been a source of pride for Sarawak.
Programmes like the briskwalk help to highlight these treasures to both locals and visitors, ensuring that the area’s heritage remains appreciated and preserved for future generations.
The organisers expressed hope that the briskwalk would serve as a model for similar community-driven initiatives across Sarawak.
By combining health, heritage, and social unity, the programme demonstrates how grassroots efforts can contribute to sustainable living and cultural preservation.
