KUCHING – The Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) celebrated its annual Ramah Tamah Gawai Dayak on 19 June 2026, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to unity and cultural diversity.
This year’s celebration was hosted by employees from the Orang Ulu community, who showcased their rich traditions, heritage, and customs.
Their participation reflected the unique cultural tapestry of Sarawak and the diversity that strengthens DBKU as an organisation.
The event underscored DBKU’s longstanding practice of celebrating major festivals together, including Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Christmas, and Gawai Dayak.
Each occasion provides a platform for employees to gather, share joy, and strengthen friendships in an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill.
Mayor of Kuching North, YBhg Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, DBKU Board Members, and Director Encik Ramzi bin Abdillah were present at the ceremony, adding to the festive spirit.
Their attendance reinforced the importance of leadership in fostering inclusivity and togetherness within the DBKU family.
In his remarks, the mayor emphasised that DBKU’s strength lies in its diversity. Despite differences in race, culture, and beliefs, employees continue to work as one team with the shared goal of providing the best service to Kuching’s citizens.
This diversity, he noted, is not a division but a unifying force that makes DBKU stronger, dynamic, and progressive.
The celebration also highlighted the role of cultural appreciation in building a resilient organisation. By embracing traditions from different communities, DBKU demonstrates how inclusivity can enrich workplace culture and strengthen social bonds.
The Orang Ulu community’s involvement this year added a distinctive dimension to the event, showcasing traditional attire, performances, and customs that reflect their identity.
Their contribution was a reminder of the importance of preserving heritage while celebrating modern unity.
The Ramah Tamah Gawai Dayak celebration continues to serve as a symbol of Sarawak’s multicultural spirit, where diversity is embraced as a source of strength.
DBKU’s commitment to celebrating togetherness across all cultural and religious festivals reflects the broader values of Sarawak society – harmony, respect, and shared progress.
As the ceremony concluded, attendees exchanged festive greetings of Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai, a traditional Gawai wish for health, prosperity, and happiness.
The event reaffirmed DBKU’s role not only as a city hall but also as a community that thrives on unity and diversity.
