MATU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Matu District successfully carried out an operation to remove a black wasp nest at Chiong Soon Sekaan Shop on 17 June 2026, following an emergency call from the public.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the alert regarding the presence of a wasp nest, approximately the size of a ping pong ball, located in a store next to the complainant’s shop.
APM members were immediately dispatched to the site to assess the situation. Upon arrival, the complainant guided the team to the exact location of the nest.
Equipped with appropriate tools, the squad prepared for the removal operation. Using insecticide sprays, including Ridsect, combined with controlled fire application, the team successfully destroyed the nest.
The operation was completed without incident, and the area was declared safe shortly after. APM personnel reminded the complainant and nearby residents to remain vigilant and to report any similar cases promptly to avoid potential risks.
This intervention highlights the importance of community cooperation in ensuring public safety. Wasp nests, even small ones, can pose serious threats if left unattended, particularly in populated areas such as shops and residential zones.
The swift response by APM Matu reflects their readiness and efficiency in handling such emergencies. The Civil Defence Force continues to encourage residents to contact the PKOD immediately when encountering hazardous situations.
Their guiding principles of readiness, speed and integrity remain central to their mission of safeguarding communities across Sarawak.
