Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, explained that the government’s focus is on ensuring that rural and coastal communities benefit from continuous improvements in infrastructure, public facilities and essential services.

Speaking at the Ngiling Bidai Programme held at Rumah James, Muara Bunut, Datuk Abdullah highlighted that Semop, which encompasses around 50 longhouses with more than 863 doors, requires comprehensive planning to meet the demands of its growing population. He stressed that each project must deliver tangible benefits to residents.

“The government is always striving to provide better facilities to the people and ensure that each planned project can directly benefit the residents,” he said, underscoring the importance of practical outcomes from development initiatives.

Datuk Abdullah added that the phased approach covers multiple aspects, including infrastructure upgrades, improved access to public services and the creation of facilities that support community well-being.

He noted that these efforts are not only about raising living standards but also about opening up new economic opportunities for local residents.

He explained that better infrastructure will ease mobility, support trade and encourage further development activities in the area.

“Our main goal is to ensure that the people enjoy better facilities and benefit from the development that is being implemented continuously,” he remarked.

The Deputy Minister also emphasised that the government will continue to evaluate the evolving needs of the community to ensure that each project delivers long-term benefits.

This adaptive approach, he said, is essential for sustaining progress and ensuring that development remains relevant to the people’s circumstances.

The phased development strategy in Semop is part of Sarawak’s broader vision to uplift rural areas, ensuring that residents enjoy equitable access to modern facilities while preserving community values.

With continued investment and support, Semop is expected to see steady improvements that enhance both quality of life and economic resilience.
