KUCHING – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its commitment to educational inclusivity with an allocation of RM10 million for 2026, directed towards the Sarawak United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School Management Boards.
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, presented the mock cheque during a ceremony in Kuching.
The funds were received by the Association’s Chairman, Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming, alongside Deputy Chairman, Dato Sri Richard Wee Liang Chiat.
This annual allocation reflects the state’s longstanding policy of supporting Independent Chinese Secondary Schools (ICSSs).
These institutions play a vital role in nurturing talent, promoting multilingual education and contributing to Sarawak’s human capital development.
By sustaining this initiative, the government underscores its recognition of the diverse educational pathways that strengthen the state’s social and economic fabric.
The Premier highlighted that education remains a cornerstone of Sarawak’s long-term growth strategy. He stressed that inclusivity and diversity in education are essential to preparing future generations for both opportunities and challenges in a rapidly evolving world.
The allocation is intended not only to support infrastructure and academic programmes but also to ensure that students from different backgrounds have access to quality education.
Independent Chinese Secondary Schools have historically contributed to Sarawak’s multilingual and multicultural identity.
Their emphasis on academic excellence, alongside cultural preservation, has positioned them as important partners in the state’s broader educational ecosystem.
The RM10 million allocation is expected to further strengthen their capacity to deliver holistic education that balances academic achievement with cultural awareness.
The Sarawak Government’s continued investment in education demonstrates its focus on building a skilled and knowledgeable workforce.
By supporting institutions such as ICSSs, the state aims to cultivate a generation that is future-ready, adaptable and capable of contributing to Sarawak’s socio-economic development.
This initiative also reflects the government’s broader vision of inclusivity, ensuring that diverse educational institutions are recognised and supported.
The allocation is part of a wider effort to enhance equity in education, enabling students across Sarawak to benefit from opportunities that prepare them for leadership and innovation in the years ahead.
