KUCHING – The Sarawak Cultural Spirit Night 2026 3.0, jointly organised by the Kuching-Samarahan-Serian Chinese Youth Wing and the Kuching-Samarahan-Serian Chinese Language Society, brought together hundreds of students in a celebration of culture, unity and artistic excellence on 14 June.
Themed A Timeless Cultural Spirit, An Enduring Artistic Flame, the event welcomed 10 secondary schools from Miri, Serian, Samarahan and Kuching, involving 150 students.
For the first time, 12 primary schools (SJKC) participated, with 324 pupils taking part, including many from Bumiputera backgrounds.
Organisers highlighted that 45 per cent of SJKC students in Sarawak are Bumiputera, underscoring the inclusivity of the programme and the shared identity of all participants as anak Sarawak.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dr Sim Kui Hian, congratulated the students, teachers and parents for their dedication and achievements.
He noted the progress made in various categories such as poetry, music and dance, attributing the improvements to the collective effort of schools and families.
The evening also recognised outstanding achievements, including 92 students who attained Grade A in the SPM Chinese Language examination, three distinguished teachers and two Bumiputera students who excelled in the All-Sand Soul Party. These awards reflected the event’s commitment to celebrating excellence across diverse communities.
Dr Sim expressed appreciation to the organising committee, acknowledging their perseverance in expanding the event from its beginnings in Kuching Division in 1992 to a statewide celebration over the past four years.
He emphasised that the Cultural Spirit Night is more than a performance showcase; it is a platform for nation building, where communities come together to strengthen unity and cultural pride.
The Deputy Premier highlighted that the event demonstrates how Sarawakians of different backgrounds can contribute to a shared vision of inclusivity and progress.
He described the gathering as a living example of how cultural initiatives can foster harmony and mutual respect while nurturing artistic talent among the younger generation.
The Sarawak Cultural Spirit Night 2026 3.0 stands as a testament to the enduring role of education, culture and community collaboration in shaping the future of the state.
With growing participation from schools across Sarawak, the event continues to inspire students to embrace their heritage while contributing to the broader mission of nation building.
