The visit was aimed at assessing the current stage of implementation, identifying challenges, and ensuring that the project remains on track.

The SSLR Phase 2 is a major infrastructure initiative designed to improve connectivity between Sarawak and Sabah, reducing travel time and enhancing economic opportunities across northern Borneo.

Dato Ahmad Nadzri was accompanied by Tan Sri Bustari Yusuf, founder of the OBYU Group and Maltimur Aktif Unggul JV Sdn. Bhd., the company involved in the project.

Officers from the Sarawak State Development Office also joined the delegation, reflecting the collaborative effort between federal and state agencies in overseeing the development.

During the visit, the Federal Secretary emphasised the importance of timely delivery and quality standards, noting that the SSLR2 project is vital for regional integration.

The road, once completed, is expected to provide a safer and more efficient alternative to existing routes, particularly for rural communities that rely heavily on road access for trade, education, and healthcare.

In addition to the project inspection, Dato Ahmad Nadzri visited Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Seridan. He received a briefing on the school’s operations and engaged with staff and residents to better understand the challenges faced by the community.

Issues raised included infrastructure needs and resource shortages that require attention from relevant authorities.

The visit highlighted the dual focus of federal oversight: ensuring large-scale infrastructure projects progress smoothly while also addressing local community concerns.

By combining these priorities, the government aims to balance development with social responsibility. The SSLR Phase 2 project is part of Malaysia’s broader strategy to strengthen inter-state connectivity and support economic growth in East Malaysia.

Infrastructure improvements such as this are seen as crucial for bridging development gaps between urban centres and remote areas.

As the project advances, regular monitoring visits are expected to continue, ensuring accountability and transparency in its implementation.

The Federal Secretary’s engagement in both the road project and the school visit underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive development that benefits all levels of society.
