KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, attended a condolence visit on Saturday afternoon to pay their final respects to the late Datin Patinggi Dr Jane Yong Sau Kan.
The ceremony took place at the family residence in Jalan Tabuan, where relatives and close friends gathered to mourn her passing.
Datin Patinggi Dr Jane Yong Sau Kan was the wife of the former Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Dr Wong Soon Koh.
Her death has been felt deeply within the community, particularly among those who recognised her contributions to public life and her role in supporting her husband’s long career in state administration.
The governor and his wife arrived at approximately 3.30 pm and were received warmly by the family. Among those present were her children, Dr Wong Chee Liang, Dr Wong Chee May, and Encik Wong Chee Lin, together with extended relatives.
The atmosphere was solemn yet dignified, as family members welcomed the state leaders into their home.
During the visit, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan conveyed words of encouragement and sympathy to the bereaved family. They expressed their hope that the family would find strength and resilience in facing this difficult time.
“Hopefully all the services and kindness left by the deceased will always be remembered and become meaningful memories for the entire family and friends,” they said.
The late Datin Patinggi Dr Jane Yong Sau Kan was widely respected for her dedication to charitable causes and her quiet but influential presence in Sarawak’s social and civic circles.
Her support for community initiatives and her commitment to family values have left a lasting impression on those who knew her.
Observers note that her passing marks the loss of a figure who played a significant role behind the scenes in Sarawak’s political and social landscape.
While her husband, Datuk Patinggi Dr Wong Soon Koh, held prominent positions in government, she was regarded as a steadfast partner who contributed to his work and to the broader community.
The governor’s attendance at the condolence visit reflects the high regard in which she was held, as well as the respect afforded to her family.
It also highlights the importance of unity and compassion in Sarawak’s leadership, particularly during times of personal loss.
As the family continues to grieve, many in the community have expressed their condolences and shared memories of her kindness and generosity.
Her legacy is expected to endure through the values she instilled in her children and the positive impact she had on those around her.
The visit concluded with prayers offered by the governor and his wife, who wished the family peace and fortitude.
The gathering served as a reminder of the bonds that connect Sarawak’s leaders with its people, especially in moments of sorrow.
