SARIKEI – A significant gathering was held recently to acknowledge the enduring commitment of public sector employees within the division. The event served as a formal occasion to bestow honours upon individuals who have dedicated substantial portions of their working lives to serving both the state and the nation.
This latest presentation marks the sixth such ceremony conducted during the current calendar year, highlighting an ongoing effort to recognise long-term devotion in the civil service.
The proceedings took place within the Council Chamber at the Sarawak Government Administration Centre for the Sarikei Division. During this session, a total of 164 recipients were conferred with the Loyal Service Medal.
These honourees were drawn from seventeen distinct departments and agencies operating across the region. The distribution of awards covered a broad spectrum of the public administration landscape, ensuring that various sectors of governance were adequately represented during the celebration.
A breakdown of the participating organisations reveals a collaborative recognition effort between different levels of government. Eleven of the represented bodies fell under the jurisdiction of the Sarawak state administration.

Presiding over the occasion was Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. His presence at the function signified the high importance placed on workforce appreciation by the state leadership.
By officiating the ceremony personally, the Premier reinforced the message that the contributions of civil servants are integral to the functioning of society and deserve the highest level of official acknowledgement and respect.
Among those celebrated were several individuals whose tenure has spanned nearly four decades. Mr Philip Anak Sanjan, representing the Sarawak Agriculture Department, was noted for his extensive years of duty. Similarly, Mr Abdul Latip Bin Osen from the Sarawak National Registration Department received his medal for comparable longevity.
Mrs Dacy Christopher Ugot of the Sarawak Education Department also stood out amongst her peers. Each of these three veterans has completed thirty-seven years of continuous service, setting a remarkable benchmark for dedication.
The criteria for receiving this particular honour are clearly defined within public service regulations. Eligibility is restricted to permanent staff members who have maintained an unblemished record throughout their careers. Recipients must have either completed twenty consecutive years or accumulated twenty-five years of aggregate service.
Furthermore, it is mandatory that their performance throughout this period has been consistently excellent and satisfactory, ensuring the award remains a true marker of quality and reliability.
