SIBU: A full-scale charity exercise was successfully carried out at Sibu Airport involving 25 agencies from federal and state government departments as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The large-scale drill was designed to test the level of preparedness and coordination among all agencies, including Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd (MASB) Sibu, in handling potential emergency situations.
According to officials, the simulation focused on evaluating response procedures, communication channels, and the readiness of equipment and manpower. It also served to strengthen cooperation between government bodies and civil society organisations in the event of real-life crises.
The exercise was conducted under the framework of the Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP), which outlines the roles and responsibilities of each participating agency during emergencies at the airport. By adhering to the plan, all departments involved were able to showcase their ability to work together efficiently while ensuring public safety.
Among the agencies that took part were police, medical teams, fire and rescue units, civil defence personnel, and various support organisations. Their involvement highlighted the importance of joint training in building a fast, coordinated, and effective response mechanism.
The charity exercise was also observed by the Assistant Director (Police) of the Sarawak National Security Council (MKN), DSP Dayang Rahmah, who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the drill. Her presence underscored the importance placed by authorities on continuous improvement in safety and emergency management.
Community members and stakeholders welcomed the initiative, stressing that such exercises not only improve technical preparedness but also build confidence among the public in the safety standards at Sibu Airport.
The exercise concluded with a review session where feedback was collected from participating agencies to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
