KUCHING – The Support Programme for Well-Being Caregivers (SPeKTRUM) was officially launched in Kuching on Sunday as part of efforts to strengthen support for caregivers and the people under their care.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Cultural Centre, Language and Library Hall of the Sarawak branch of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), with Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri officiating the event.
The programme focuses on providing support and attention to caregivers, recognising their role in caring for individuals who require assistance in their daily lives.
SPeKTRUM is intended to strengthen the well-being of caregivers while also supporting the welfare of those receiving care. The initiative brings attention to the needs of caregivers as part of wider efforts to ensure that care and support systems remain responsive to the people who depend on them.
The launch was attended by Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) director Tuan Haji Semawi Haji Mohamad, Productive Welfare Division director Encik Azahari Mohd Daut and National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) Sarawak director Encik Jimbau anak Munggat.
Also present were Sarawak Language and Library Hall director Dr Azizul Haji Ismail and JKMS deputy director (Federal) Encik Mohd Ali Taib.
The involvement of several government agencies reflects the cross-sector nature of caregiver support, with welfare and family-related services playing a role in addressing the needs of caregivers and people requiring care.
Caregivers can face responsibilities that extend beyond providing day-to-day assistance, including managing the welfare and well-being of those under their care. Support programmes such as SPeKTRUM place emphasis on ensuring that caregivers themselves receive appropriate attention as part of the overall care process.
The programme also reflects the continued role of relevant agencies in strengthening the support available to caregivers. Its focus extends to both the people providing care and those receiving it, with well-being and welfare identified as key considerations.
The launch in Kuching provides a platform for greater attention to caregiver needs and the importance of sustained support for families and individuals requiring care. It also highlights the role of government agencies in coordinating efforts related to social welfare and community support.
By placing caregivers within the scope of welfare and support initiatives, SPeKTRUM recognises that the well-being of caregivers is closely connected to the quality and continuity of care received by those who depend on them.
The programme is part of ongoing efforts by the relevant agencies to strengthen the role of caregivers and ensure welfare and support needs remain part of the broader community care agenda.
The inauguration was held in Kuching on 23 August 2026, bringing together representatives from Sarawak’s social welfare, population and family development, and language and library institutions.
