In a statement, Chong expressed deep concern over the incident, which was depicted in two viral video clips, lasting 14 and 8 seconds respectively. The footage showed a silver Toyota Vios running over one of two dogs at approximately 5:40 PM on Jan 16. The dog, which was on the road, was struck and managed to move to the roadside but tragically succumbed to its injuries shortly after.

“Today, members of the public who saw the video have come forward to lodge police reports. My assistant Michael Kong and I are here to show our support for their cause,” said Chong.

He called for a swift and thorough investigation into the matter, urging the authorities to ensure accountability for the driver involved.

The incident has reignited discussions about animal rights and road safety in Malaysia, with many netizens demanding stricter measures to protect animals from negligent drivers.

Chong’s involvement highlights the importance of taking such issues seriously and ensuring justice is served, not just for the animals but also for the community’s collective sense of fairness and compassion.
