KUALA LUMPUR — A construction site at Section 8, Leboh Ampang was brought to a halt yesterday afternoon after a scaffolding structure collapsed, leaving one worker seriously injured.
The incident was reported at around 2.50pm, when part of the temporary structure gave way during work activities. According to eyewitnesses, members of the public rushed in to rescue the victim, believed to be a Bangladeshi national in his 30s, before the authorities arrived.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that no additional victims were found after a thorough inspection of the debris. The injured worker was immediately handed over to medical personnel from Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for urgent treatment.
A spokesperson from the Fire Department said the quick action by bystanders likely prevented the situation from becoming more tragic. “When our team arrived, the victim had already been removed safely from the collapsed structure by members of the public. We carried out further inspections and confirmed there were no other victims trapped in the rubble,” the spokesperson said.
The collapse caused panic among workers and nearby passersby, leading to the immediate closure of the area by enforcement teams. The site has since been sealed off for safety assessments and further action by the relevant agencies.
Several authorities were mobilised to the scene, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force (APM), Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s medical team, and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) rescue squad.
Investigations are now underway to determine the cause of the collapse. Authorities are expected to look into whether safety protocols and construction standards were adhered to by the contractors involved.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by construction workers and the importance of strict compliance with safety guidelines at construction sites.
