MyCHAMPION Volunteers Drive Community Health Across Malaysia

MyCHAMPION Volunteers Drive Community Health Across Malaysia

Kuching, 8 November 2025 – The MyCHAMPION (Malaysian Health Community Agent) initiative continues to strengthen its role in promoting community health, as volunteers recently completed an intensive empowerment training programme at the Borneo Cultures Museum, Kuching.

Officially launched by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) on 26 March 2022, MyCHAMPION forms a key part of the National Health Agenda (ANMS) using a Whole-of-Nation approach. The programme empowers individuals to act as grassroots health agents, bridging the gap between government health initiatives and local communities. Under the stewardship of MOH, MyCHAMPION works collaboratively with multiple ministries, agencies, NGOs, and established volunteer networks, including KOSPEN, COMBI, Know Your Medicine Ambassadors, and Dental Icons.

The volunteers play a pivotal role in educating and mobilising their communities to adopt healthy lifestyles. Their responsibilities include promoting preventative health measures to reduce non-communicable diseases (NCDs), sharing accurate health information, supporting vulnerable populations, and encouraging proactive self-health management. Essentially, MyCHAMPION volunteers serve as a vital link between MOH’s health programmes and the grassroots level.

The MyCHAMPION Empowerment Training Programme held on 8 November 2025 ran from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The full-day session featured twelve comprehensive lectures delivered by ten facilitators, including medical doctors, pharmacists, and senior health clinic officers. The curriculum focused on critical public health priorities such as NCD management, practical health screenings, oral and mental healthcare, pharmaceutical supply oversight, food safety, effective communication, vector-borne disease control including rabies and dengue, and guidance on utilising the MyCHAMPION portal.

Participants responded enthusiastically to the training, which concluded with a formal closing ceremony and the presentation of certificates of appreciation. The programme reinforces Malaysia’s commitment to fostering community well-being and establishing a sustainable culture of healthy living nationwide.
