KUCHING: The Che Hui Khor Moral Improvement Association Kuching and Samarahan Division, under the Teochew Association, successfully held its Lunar New Year charity event today at the 10th Mile area, bringing timely assistance and festive cheer to underprivileged families ahead of the Chinese New Year.
The charity programme took place at the Ten Mile Chung Hua Primary School covered gymnasium and saw the distribution of Chinese New Year gift packs containing daily necessities to needy families and individuals from surrounding areas. The event was part of the association’s wider 2026 Lunar New Year charity initiative, which is scheduled to cover several locations across Kuching and Samarahan.
State Assemblyman for Batu Kitang, YB Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, attended the event as the Guest of Honour and jointly officiated the gift presentation ceremony. His presence added significance to the programme and reflected continued support for community-based welfare efforts.
In his remarks, Datuk Lo commended the Teochew Association and the Che Hui Khor Moral Improvement Association for their consistent commitment to helping those in need. He said such charity programmes not only ease the financial burden faced by low-income families but also strengthen social bonds within the community, especially during important cultural celebrations like the Lunar New Year.
Organisers said the charity event was carried out smoothly with the help of dedicated volunteers and generous donors. Recipients expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that the support would help them prepare for the festive season with greater peace of mind.
The Che Hui Khor Moral Improvement Association, has a long history of organising moral education and welfare activities in Sarawak. Its annual Lunar New Year charity programme is one of its key initiatives, aimed at promoting traditional values of compassion, generosity and mutual care.
As the Lunar New Year draws closer, the association hopes its charity initiatives will remind the public of the importance of looking out for one another, particularly those facing economic hardship. The successful event at 10th Mile stands as a meaningful example of how community organisations and leaders can work together to support the less fortunate and preserve the spirit of care that has long been part of Malaysian society.
