KAPIT – The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) today launched a new solar-powered road speed radar at Jalan Kapit/Song in Kapit, marking a significant step forward in enhancing road safety and raising driver awareness of speed limits in high-risk areas.
The launch ceremony was officiated by the Director of Public Works Sarawak, YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, who highlighted the critical role of modern technology in strengthening the state’s infrastructure safety system. He noted that integrating smart devices such as the solar-powered radar can help reduce accidents and improve overall traffic management.
The newly installed radar features real-time speed display, allowing drivers to immediately see their vehicle’s speed as they approach the zone. Officials explained that this system serves not only as a monitoring device but also as an educational tool, reminding motorists to comply with speed limits and encouraging safer driving habits.
JKR Sarawak emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to incorporate innovative technology into road safety measures across the state. By leveraging solar power, the radar system operates sustainably while supporting the government’s vision of safer and more efficient transportation networks.
Residents and road users in Kapit have welcomed the development, noting that the area has seen several accidents in recent years. With the introduction of smart infrastructure, authorities aim to reduce traffic risks and enhance public confidence in the state’s transportation systems.
