DEBAK – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully removed a wasp nest at a secondary school in Debak on 15 June 2026, following concerns about the safety of students and staff.
The incident was reported to the APM Debak team after school authorities discovered the nest within the compound.
Given the potential danger posed by venomous insects, four APM members were immediately dispatched to the site. Upon arrival, the team conducted a thorough inspection to identify the exact location of the nest.
Using specialised equipment and adhering to strict safety procedures, the officers carried out a destruction operation to eliminate the threat. The task was completed without incident, and the nest was safely removed and destroyed.
Authorities stressed that the operation was necessary to prevent possible harm to students, teachers, and other staff members.
Wasp stings can cause severe allergic reactions in some individuals, making swift intervention critical in such cases.
The school has been advised to remain vigilant and to monitor its surroundings regularly. Officials encouraged immediate reporting of any future sightings of poisonous insects to ensure timely action can be taken.
APM Debak reaffirmed its commitment to community safety, noting that its personnel are trained to handle such operations efficiently.
The agency also reminded the public that early reporting of hazards plays a vital role in preventing accidents and safeguarding lives.
This incident highlights the importance of proactive measures in maintaining safe learning environments.
Schools across Sarawak have been urged to adopt routine checks of their compounds, particularly during warmer months when insect activity tends to increase.
The successful removal of the nest demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated response efforts between local communities and emergency services. It also underscores the readiness of APM teams to act swiftly in protecting public safety.
