MIRI – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully captured a three-metre batik python in Miri on 14 June 2026 after receiving an emergency call from a local resident.
The Bravo Squad, consisting of four members led by Pbt. (PA) Alisa Binti Ali, was dispatched to the scene following a report made through the MERS 999 emergency line.
The complainant, a 35-year-old man, had spotted the snake inside a cat cage near his property and immediately sought assistance due to safety concerns.
Upon arrival, the squad inspected the location and confirmed the presence of the python. Using the pincer technique, the team managed to secure the reptile without incident.
The operation was carried out smoothly, ensuring the safety of both the officers and the public. Following the successful capture, the Bravo Squad reported back to Miri Police Station.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred during the intervention and that the area was safe after the removal of the snake.
Wildlife encounters such as this are not uncommon in Sarawak, where snakes occasionally enter residential areas in search of food or shelter.
Officials have reminded residents to remain cautious and to contact emergency services immediately if they encounter dangerous animals.
APM Miri reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, stressing that its personnel are trained to handle such cases efficiently.
The agency continues to encourage community cooperation, noting that early reporting plays a vital role in preventing accidents and ensuring swift response.
The incident highlights the importance of vigilance in residential areas, particularly those close to forests or rivers where snakes are more likely to appear.
By acting quickly and following established procedures, APM Miri demonstrated its readiness to protect the community from potential harm.
