The report was received in the morning, and the Aspa-O Charlie squad was immediately deployed to the location.

Upon arrival, the team carried out a safety inspection of the premises. The officers identified a nest roughly the size of a football attached to the wall of the complainant’s house.

Given the potential danger posed by ground wasps, the squad initiated a controlled operation to neutralise the threat.

The destruction was carried out using insecticide spraying, a method commonly employed by emergency services to ensure effective elimination while minimising risks to residents and responders. The operation was completed without complications, and the site was declared safe shortly afterwards.

Ground wasps are known for their aggressive behaviour when disturbed, and their stings can cause severe pain or allergic reactions.

In residential areas, nests of this size pose a significant hazard, particularly to children and elderly residents.

Emergency services across Sarawak have repeatedly emphasised the importance of reporting such cases promptly rather than attempting removal without professional assistance.

The Civil Defence Force highlighted that community vigilance remains essential in preventing accidents. Residents are urged to contact local emergency services if they encounter similar threats.

The authorities continue to remind the public that trained personnel are equipped with protective gear and methods to handle insect-related hazards safely.

This incident in Tebedu reflects the ongoing commitment of Sarawak’s emergency teams to safeguarding communities from environmental risks.
