The incident was reported by a local resident who discovered the nest on the roof of his home. Concerns were raised about the risk posed by the insects, particularly to children and elderly individuals living nearby.

Ground wasps are known for their aggressive behaviour when disturbed, and their stings can cause severe pain or allergic reactions.

Upon receiving the complaint, APM Debak officers were immediately dispatched to the location. The team conducted a thorough inspection and risk assessment to determine the safest approach.

The nest was found firmly attached to the roof structure, posing a direct hazard to the occupants. The operation was carried out using Ridsect insecticide spray, a method designed to paralyse and eliminate the colony effectively.

Officers applied the spray cautiously, ensuring compliance with safety procedures to avoid unintended harm.

Once the wasps were neutralised, the nest was carefully removed and disposed of to prevent any recurrence. Authorities confirmed that the operation was completed without injuries or property damage.

The swift intervention demonstrated the preparedness of local emergency services in handling insect-related hazards.

APM Debak advised the complainant to remain vigilant and monitor the surroundings of the property. Residents were reminded to report any sightings of poisonous insect nests to the authorities rather than attempting removal themselves.

Emergency services are equipped with protective gear and trained methods to manage such risks safely. This case highlights the importance of community cooperation in maintaining public safety.

Similar operations have been conducted across Sarawak, particularly during warmer months when insect activity increases.

The Civil Defence Force continues to stress that early reporting is crucial in preventing accidents and ensuring swift resolution.
