The Selangau District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed that it received an emergency call from the public reporting the presence of the nest.

The insects had built their colony on a tree close to the school store, raising concerns about the safety of pupils and staff.

Upon arrival, officers conducted a safety inspection and identified the nest, which was approximately the size of a rugby ball.

Given the potential risks posed by wasps, particularly to children and elderly individuals, the team initiated a controlled destruction operation.

The nest was eliminated using a safe burning method, which ensured that the colony was completely neutralised without causing harm to the surrounding environment. The operation was carried out with caution and in line with established safety procedures.

Authorities confirmed that the site was declared safe after the intervention, and no injuries or property damage were reported.

The swift response demonstrated the readiness of emergency services to handle insect-related hazards in public spaces.

Wasp nests in school areas are considered particularly dangerous, as children are more vulnerable to stings, which can cause severe pain or allergic reactions.

The Civil Defence Force stressed that community vigilance is vital in preventing accidents and urged residents to report similar cases promptly rather than attempting removal themselves.
