KUCHING, 21 June 2026 — Strong community spirit and public support were clearly seen today as the Malaysian Red Crescent Society Kuching Branch successfully organised Run to Save Lives 6.0, attracting more than 2,500 participants and raising RM133,000 to support humanitarian and community service programmes.
The event was officiated by YB Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, who represented Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian. His presence reflected the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to strengthening volunteerism, emergency response readiness, and public welfare initiatives.
Organisers said the turnout this year was highly encouraging, with participants coming from all walks of life including families, youth groups, corporate teams, and volunteers. The strong participation also showed growing public trust in the Malaysian Red Crescent Society Kuching Branch and its humanitarian work in the state.
The RM133,000 collected will be used to strengthen key services such as blood donor recruitment programmes, CPR and AED awareness training, first aid courses, ambulance and emergency response services, as well as welfare assistance for individuals and communities in need.
Deputy Chairman of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society Kuching Branch, Dr. Chou Chii Ming, expressed appreciation to all sponsors, donors, corporate partners, volunteers, and participants for their support. He said the success of the event was the result of collective effort and strong community cooperation.
He also highlighted the growing involvement of young people, saying their participation is important in nurturing future leaders who are more aware of humanitarian values, emergency preparedness, and social responsibility.
A key contributor to the success of the event was media and social media support. Sarawak Daily & Kuching King played an important role to make the Run to Save Lives 6.0 success by promoting the event throughout their social media platforms. Their coverage helped increase public awareness and encouraged wider participation across the community.
In addition to fundraising, the event also promoted healthy lifestyles and raised awareness on the importance of life-saving skills such as CPR and first aid. Organisers noted that such public engagement activities are essential in building a more prepared and resilient society.
The Malaysian Red Crescent Society Kuching Branch also acknowledged the efforts of organising committees, volunteers, medical teams, partner agencies, and media personnel who ensured the smooth running of the programme.
During the event, Dr. Chou announced that Run to Save Lives 7.0 will be held on 20 June 2027, continuing the annual initiative to combine fitness, community engagement, and humanitarian support.
With strong backing from the public, private sector, and media partners, the organisation hopes to further expand its services and strengthen its mission of saving lives and supporting communities in need.
