SPAOH – An early morning incident in Spaoh on Monday, 6 July 2026, prompted swift action from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) after a car was reported to have locked itself automatically, leaving its owner stranded.
The emergency call was received by the Spaoh District Operations Control Centre at 6.19 am. The complainant explained that his Proton Saga had locked from the inside while he stopped at a stall in Kampung Hulu Spaoh to purchase sweets, with the keys left inside the vehicle.
Responding immediately, three members of the APM Spaoh Alpha Squad were dispatched to the scene. Equipped with a specialised Door Opener Kit, the team worked carefully to unlock the vehicle without causing any damage. Within ten minutes of arrival, the officers successfully opened the car door, allowing the owner to regain access.
The complainant expressed relief and gratitude for the quick intervention, noting that the professional handling of the situation enabled him to continue his journey without loss or harm. The operation was officially concluded at 6.40 am, with APM confirming that the case had been resolved safely.
Vehicle lock-in incidents are not uncommon, particularly with modern cars that feature automatic locking systems. Safety experts advise drivers to remain cautious and ensure keys are removed before leaving their vehicles, as such situations can lead to unnecessary stress or even danger if children or pets are inside.
APM Spaoh reminded the public to remain vigilant and avoid attempting to force open locked vehicles themselves, as this could result in damage or injury. Instead, residents are encouraged to contact emergency services for assistance. The Civil Defence Force reinforced its operational motto: “Ready, Fast, With Integrity,” highlighting its commitment to rapid and responsible action.
Authorities also emphasised the importance of community awareness in preventing similar incidents. By reporting emergencies promptly, residents enable responders to act quickly and effectively. The Spaoh unit continues to encourage the public to use official emergency lines for immediate support.
For emergencies, residents can reach APM Spaoh directly at 083-473006 or call the national emergency line at 999. The Civil Defence Force remains prepared to safeguard lives and property across Sarawak, ensuring that even minor incidents are handled with professionalism and care.
