BINTULU – The Bintulu District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) responded to a wildlife emergency on Sunday, 5 July 2026, after receiving a call from the public regarding a snake sighting inside a residential property.
The incident was classified as a KMU (Snake Catching Case). Upon arrival, the complainant informed officers that a black cobra had entered the store of the house. The reptile, estimated to be around two metres in length, posed a serious risk to the occupants and required immediate removal.
Members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Bintulu unit carried out the operation using snaring and pinching techniques. The cobra was successfully captured without harm to the residents or the officers involved. The situation was declared safe once the snake had been secured.
Snake encounters are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in districts such as Bintulu where homes are often located near vegetation and open land. Wildlife experts note that cobras are highly venomous and can be aggressive when threatened, making professional intervention essential in such cases.
APM Bintulu reminded residents not to attempt handling snakes themselves, stressing that improper action could lead to serious injury. Instead, the public is urged to contact emergency services for immediate assistance. The unit reinforced its guiding mottos: “APM Bintulu, Nang Steady,” “There is a Disaster, Call APM,” and “Ready and Fast with Integrity.”
Authorities continue to highlight the importance of community vigilance in preventing accidents. By reporting wildlife emergencies quickly, residents enable responders to act decisively and ensure public safety.
The Civil Defence Force remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across Bintulu and surrounding districts. For urgent cases, residents can reach APM Bintulu directly at 086-318233, available 24 hours a day, or call the national emergency line at 999.
This latest case demonstrates the readiness of emergency services to manage unexpected wildlife encounters. While the presence of a cobra inside a home store was alarming, the swift and coordinated response ensured that the situation was resolved safely.
