The arrest took place in front of the Siaw Parts Trading building along Jalan Sungai Asap, Belaga. Officers detained a Murut man, also identified as Lun Bawang, after observing suspicious behaviour. A search of the suspect and his belongings led to the discovery of items believed to be dangerous drugs.

Among the confiscated items was a black Adidas bag containing two transparent straw tubes marked ZZI and ZZ2. Inside the tubes were crystal-like substances suspected to be syabu, or methamphetamine, with an estimated gross weight of 0.80 grams.

Police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody and further investigations are underway. Intelligence interviews will be conducted to gather additional information, and investigation papers are being prepared. Authorities have stated that the suspect will be remanded at the Bintulu CPS Lockup, with an application scheduled at the Bintulu Magistrates’ Court on 10 July 2026.

The Royal Malaysian Police emphasised that the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offences across Sarawak. Operations such as this are designed to disrupt narcotics distribution and safeguard communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The case highlights the continued vigilance of enforcement agencies in rural districts such as Belaga, where police are working closely with the JSJN to monitor suspicious activities and act swiftly against offenders. Public cooperation remains a crucial element in these efforts, with authorities encouraging residents to report any information related to drug abuse or trafficking.

Drug abuse continues to pose challenges nationwide, with methamphetamine being one of the most commonly seized substances. The Royal Malaysian Police have reiterated their commitment to strict enforcement under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, ensuring that offenders are prosecuted and communities are protected.

The Belaga arrest adds to a series of recent actions taken across Sarawak, reflecting the government’s determination to address narcotics issues at both urban and rural levels. By combining intelligence gathering, enforcement operations, and community engagement, police aim to reduce the prevalence of drug abuse and strengthen public safety.
