The arrest was made at approximately 11.00 am by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, working in collaboration with personnel from the Bau District Police Headquarters. The suspect, identified as a 30-year-old local man, was taken into custody during the operation known as Op Tapis.

Initial urine screening carried out on the suspect returned positive results for drugs. He has since been placed under detention in accordance with provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Bau District Police Chief, Pisupt Mohd Haide bin A. Rahman, confirmed the arrest and reiterated the Royal Malaysia Police’s (PDRM) firm stance against drug-related offences. He stressed that any involvement in drug abuse will be dealt with seriously under the law.

Authorities have urged members of the public to assist in combating drug abuse by providing information. Reports can be made via the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) hotline at 012-2087222 or the Sarawak IPK JSJN hotline at 017-5929211.

The Bau District Police continue to emphasise community cooperation as a vital element in tackling narcotics issues. Public vigilance and timely reporting are seen as crucial in supporting enforcement efforts and safeguarding communities from the harmful impact of drug abuse.

The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by police to curb drug-related activities across Sarawak. Operations such as Op Tapis are part of a wider strategy to dismantle networks of abuse and ensure offenders are brought to justice.

Drug abuse remains a pressing concern in Malaysia, with authorities consistently reinforcing their commitment to enforcement, prevention, and rehabilitation. The Bau case adds to a series of recent actions taken by police to strengthen public safety and reduce the prevalence of narcotics in local communities.
