KUCHING – The Da Sheng Temple commemorated its 48th anniversary with a grand celebration dinner held at the Nan Tian Men Temple complex in Kuching, drawing community leaders, devotees, and guests to the Grand Riverine Ballroom.
The event highlighted nearly five decades of the temple’s presence in Sarawak, where it has served as a spiritual sanctuary and cultural hub for the local community. The anniversary was marked by traditional rituals, abundant incense offerings, and a festive dinner that reflected the temple’s enduring role in promoting unity and cultural continuity.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian attended the occasion, underscoring the importance of religious institutions in fostering social harmony and cultural preservation. His presence symbolised the state’s recognition of the temple’s contribution to community life and its role in safeguarding traditions across generations.
Kuching South City Council Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng also joined the celebration, expressing gratitude to the organisers and extending his wishes for the temple’s continued prosperity. In his remarks, he noted the temple’s resilience through challenges over the years and its significance in promoting health, well-being, and peace for the wider community.
He stated, “Forty-eight years of protection through trials and tribulations, the temple’s divine grace has blessed all of Sarawak. I thank the organisers for their kind invitation and wish the Da Sheng Temple continued prosperity, protecting the health and well-being of all people and the peace and prosperity of the nation.”
The Da Sheng Temple, established in the late 1970s, has become a focal point for worshippers and visitors alike. It is known for its elaborate architecture, vibrant festivals, and charitable initiatives that extend beyond religious practice. The temple has consistently played a role in supporting community welfare programmes, offering assistance during times of need, and providing a space for cultural exchange.
Over the years, the temple has hosted numerous ceremonies and events that bring together people from diverse backgrounds, reinforcing Sarawak’s reputation as a state that values inclusivity and multiculturalism. The anniversary dinner was not only a celebration of the temple’s history but also a reaffirmation of its mission to serve as a beacon of faith and cultural identity.
Guests at the dinner were treated to performances and presentations that reflected the temple’s heritage, while the atmosphere was enriched by traditional offerings and prayers. The event also served as an opportunity for younger generations to learn about the temple’s legacy and the importance of preserving cultural traditions in a rapidly modernising society.
The celebration comes at a time when Sarawak continues to emphasise the importance of cultural heritage in its development agenda. Religious and cultural institutions such as Da Sheng Temple are seen as vital in maintaining social cohesion, promoting respect among communities, and contributing to the state’s broader vision of unity and prosperity.
As the temple enters its 49th year, its leadership and devotees remain committed to sustaining its role as a guardian of faith and culture. The anniversary dinner was a reminder of the temple’s enduring relevance and its ability to adapt to changing times while holding firm to its spiritual foundations.
The organisers expressed appreciation for the support received from the community and reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring the temple continues to thrive as a place of worship, cultural preservation, and community service. The evening concluded with prayers for peace, prosperity, and good health for all, reflecting the temple’s guiding principles and its commitment to serving Sarawak’s people.
