During the visit, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Water, Puan Malseni binti Jamal, briefed the Premier on the progress of the Salim Water Treatment Plant development project. The project is regarded as a key initiative to secure long-term water solutions for central Sarawak, particularly benefiting the Sibu community.

The Salim Water Treatment Plant is designed to enhance water supply reliability and meet the growing demands of households and industries in the region. By focusing on sustainable practices, the project aims to ensure that future generations have access to clean and safe water. The development aligns with Sarawak’s broader strategy of strengthening infrastructure to support economic growth and improve quality of life.

Also present during the Premier’s visit were YB Dato Sri Haji Julaihi bin Haji Narawi, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Sarawak; YBhg Datu Haji Jafri bin Lias, Permanent Secretary of MUT; along with senior management and officials from Sarawak Water. Their attendance reflected the collaborative effort between government agencies and Sarawak Water in driving forward infrastructure projects that directly benefit communities.

The Premier’s engagement at the exhibition booth highlighted the importance of water security as part of Sarawak’s development agenda. His presence reinforced the state government’s support for initiatives that prioritise sustainability, resilience, and community well-being.

Sarawak Water emphasised its dedication to advancing impactful infrastructure projects, noting that the Salim Water Treatment Plant is a milestone in its mission to deliver efficient and reliable services. The company reaffirmed its commitment to aligning with the state’s development goals, ensuring that projects are not only technically sound but also socially beneficial.

Community leaders and residents in Sibu have welcomed the project, recognising its potential to address long-standing challenges in water supply. The initiative is expected to reduce reliance on older systems, improve distribution efficiency, and provide greater assurance of water quality.

The Sarawakku Sayang programme itself served as a platform for government agencies, private organisations, and community groups to showcase their contributions to Sarawak’s progress. Sarawak Water’s participation demonstrated how infrastructure development can be communicated directly to the public, fostering transparency and trust.

In expressing gratitude, Sarawak Water extended its appreciation to the Premier for his continuous support and guidance. The company also thanked the organisers of the Sarawakku Sayang programme for providing an opportunity to engage with the community and highlight the importance of sustainable water solutions.

As Sarawak continues to pursue its development agenda, projects such as the Salim Water Treatment Plant stand as examples of how infrastructure can be designed to meet immediate needs while preparing for future challenges. The Premier’s visit reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring that essential services such as water supply remain a priority in building a resilient and prosperous Sarawak.
