Upon receiving the call, a team of three APM Betong members was immediately mobilised to the site. An inspection revealed a wasp nest approximately the size of a football situated behind the complainant’s home. Recognising the risk, the team carried out a destruction operation using insecticide spraying methods in line with prescribed safety protocols.

The operation was completed smoothly without any untoward incidents. Officers utilised an operational vehicle and personal protective equipment to ensure the safety of both the team and the surrounding community during the procedure.

APM Betong reminded residents that attempting to remove wasp nests or poisonous insects without professional assistance can be extremely dangerous. The public is strongly advised to contact the authorities immediately if such threats are discovered, rather than taking matters into their own hands.

The incident highlights the vital role played by the Civil Defence Force in safeguarding communities from everyday hazards beyond large-scale emergencies. By responding quickly and effectively, APM Betong demonstrated its commitment to protecting lives and maintaining public safety.

Community members expressed appreciation for the prompt action, noting that the presence of such a large wasp nest could have posed serious risks if left unattended. The operation also served as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation between residents and emergency services.

The Civil Defence Force continues to encourage public awareness of safety practices, stressing that early reporting of potential hazards allows authorities to act before situations escalate. The Kampung Tengah operation stands as an example of how grassroots-level cooperation can prevent accidents and ensure community well-being.

As Sarawak faces diverse challenges ranging from natural disasters to everyday risks, APM’s readiness and professionalism remain crucial in maintaining safety standards. The successful removal of the wasp nest in Betong reflects the department’s broader mission of protecting communities through rapid response and preventive measures.
