SPAOH – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Spaoh successfully resolved a locked car incident at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chong Hua on Monday afternoon, following a swift response to an emergency call.
The call was received at 3.44 pm from a man identified as Mr Lexson, who reported that his vehicle, a Toyota Unser, could not be opened after he accidentally left the keys inside. Recognising the urgency of the situation, APM dispatched three members of the Charlie Squad to the school grounds equipped with specialised tools.
The team arrived promptly with a Door Opener Kit, a device designed to safely unlock vehicles without causing damage. The operation lasted approximately 30 minutes, during which the squad carefully worked to gain access to the car. Their expertise and equipment ensured that the vehicle was opened successfully, leaving it intact.
Mr Lexson expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided, acknowledging the professionalism and efficiency of the APM team. The incident concluded without complications, and all personnel returned safely to their base after completing the task.
Cases of locked vehicles are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in busy areas such as schools, markets, and public facilities. Emergency responders often highlight the importance of carrying keys securely to avoid such inconveniences. While these incidents may appear minor compared to medical emergencies or fire outbreaks, they can cause significant disruption if not addressed quickly.
APM Spaoh has reiterated its commitment to serving the community with readiness, speed, and integrity. The unit emphasised that its role extends beyond life-threatening emergencies, covering a wide range of public assistance cases. From medical support to technical rescues, the force remains prepared to respond whenever the public requires help.
Authorities have also reminded vehicle owners to adopt preventive measures, such as using key holders or digital reminders, to reduce the likelihood of locking keys inside cars. Public awareness campaigns continue to encourage vigilance, particularly in areas where emergency services may take longer to arrive.
The incident at SJKC Chong Hua demonstrates the value of community cooperation and the availability of trained personnel to handle diverse emergencies. By responding quickly and effectively, APM Spaoh ensured that the situation was resolved without damage or delay.
Residents in Spaoh and surrounding areas are encouraged to contact APM directly in the event of emergencies. The force has provided its hotline number, 083-473006, alongside the national emergency line, 999, for immediate assistance.
As Sarawak continues to strengthen its emergency response systems, the role of local units such as APM Spaoh remains crucial in maintaining public safety and confidence. Their ability to handle both critical and everyday emergencies reflects the adaptability and dedication of the civil defence force.
