SEBAUH – A tense situation unfolded at SMK Sebauh on Monday, 13 July 2026, when two fanged snakes were discovered inside the male dormitory.
The emergency was reported to the Sebauh District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) by a member of the public, who spotted the reptiles and immediately sought assistance. Concerned about the safety of students, the complainant requested help from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sebauh.
Responding swiftly, APM Sebauh deployed personnel to the dormitory to handle the case, classified as a KMU (snake-catching) operation. Equipped with protective gear and snake-handling tools, the team carried out a careful inspection of the dormitory room where the snakes had been seen.
The reptiles were identified as fanged snakes, a venomous species that poses serious risks if left unchecked. Using established techniques, the APM team successfully captured both snakes without causing harm to the animals or the responders. The operation was concluded once the dormitory was declared safe and secure.
Wildlife encounters in schools are not uncommon in Sarawak, where snakes often enter buildings in search of shelter or food. Such incidents highlight the importance of vigilance in areas where children live and study. Venomous snakes, in particular, can pose life-threatening dangers, making professional intervention essential.
APM Sebauh has reminded the public to avoid attempting to catch snakes themselves, as untrained handling can lead to serious injury. Residents are urged to contact emergency services immediately if they encounter venomous reptiles in residential or public areas.
The Civil Defence Force continues to emphasise its readiness to respond to diverse emergencies, ranging from medical cases and natural disasters to wildlife control. Their swift action in Sebauh ensured that students at SMK Sebauh were protected from potential harm.
Community members have expressed appreciation for the professionalism of the APM team, noting that their intervention prevented what could have been a dangerous situation. The incident underscores the importance of cooperation between the public and emergency services in safeguarding communities.
Residents are reminded that emergency assistance can be reached via the 999 hotline or directly through APM Sebauh at 019-2178746 or 086-422634, which operates 24 hours a day. The department also shares updates and awareness campaigns through its TikTok and Facebook platforms, keeping the public informed about safety measures and ongoing operations.
