Nearly 1,000 Christians Celebrate Unity at Joint Christmas Service 2024

KUCHING (Dec 19): The Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre in Kuching came alive tonight as nearly 1,000 Christians gathered for the Joint Christmas Service 2024, an annual event celebrating unity among Sarawak’s diverse church denominations.

The service, organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS), brought together worshippers from various groups, including the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Methodist Chinese and Iban Churches, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, SIB Church, The Salvation Army, Sarawak Baptist Church, and Sarawak Blessed Church.

Distinguished Guests and Meaningful Highlights
Notable figures graced the event, including Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei; Dato Dr Simon Poh, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching; Dr Kelvin Yii, MP for Bandar Kuching; and Dato Lo Khere Chiang, Batu Kitang assemblyman.

The evening opened with a prayer led by Bishop Danald, setting a reverent tone for the service. A series of performances captivated the congregation, including a handbell performance, a 100-member combined choir, musical instrumental presentations, and children’s dance performances.

Reverend Dr Lau Hui Ming, president of the Methodist Church Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC), delivered an inspiring sermon titled “Love That Transforms”. Scripture readings further enriched the evening’s spiritual atmosphere.

A Joyous Conclusion
As the night drew to a close, church leaders led the congregation in a benediction, with Bishop Danald offering a heartfelt blessing. The event concluded with a rousing Christmas carol session, where attendees sang together in celebration of the festive season and the message of unity and love.
