Mayor Wee emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in supporting the elderly and fostering a caring society.

“It’s not about how much they receive but showing them care and appreciation. I’ve been part of such initiatives since becoming Mayor, and I’m grateful to see corporate companies stepping up, especially post-Covid-19,” he said.

The campaign not only aimed to assist the elderly financially but also sought to promote unity and harmony among the various communities. Wee highlighted the inclusivity of the initiative, which saw recipients beyond those celebrating Chinese New Year.

Nationwide Campaign to Support the Elderly

Launched in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 16, this six-day campaign spans 50 locations across Malaysia, delivering angpows, mini hampers, and mandarin oranges to senior citizens in need. In Kuching, similar programmes will also take place in Serian and Sri Aman today.
