KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, welcomed Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for a courtesy call on 19 June, held at the Sarawak Governor’s office in Astana Sarawak. The meeting preceded the State Executive Council (MMKN) session scheduled for later in the day.
The discussion served as a pre-council briefing, allowing both leaders to exchange views on administrative matters and the state’s development priorities.
According to official updates, the meeting centred on current issues affecting Sarawak, alongside strategies to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth.
Premier Abang Johari outlined several initiatives under the government’s long-term agenda, including the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
This framework, now entering its second phase, emphasises execution and delivery of policies designed to strengthen Sarawak’s economy, improve infrastructure, and enhance the welfare of its people.
The Premier has previously highlighted 2026 as a turning point, marking the transition from planning to measurable outcomes in areas such as job creation, education, and income growth.
Governor Wan Junaidi expressed confidence in the premier’s leadership, noting that Sarawak has already achieved significant progress in fiscal stability and institutional capacity.
He remarked that the implementation of new policies focusing on economic diversification, green energy, and human capital development would further reinforce Sarawak’s position as a competitive and prosperous state.
The meeting also touched on regional development, with emphasis on bridging rural infrastructure gaps and expanding connectivity across Sarawak.
These efforts are seen as vital to ensuring equitable distribution of benefits and opportunities for communities throughout the state.
Observers have noted that Sarawak’s current trajectory reflects a broader ambition to align economic growth with social advancement.
Programmes such as free higher education for Sarawakians beginning in 2026, alongside investments in renewable energy, are expected to shape the state’s long-term competitiveness.
The governor reiterated his belief that the premier’s administration will continue to deliver results that strengthen Sarawak’s standing nationally and internationally.
He emphasised that policies centred on people’s welfare, economic resilience, and regional progress are key to maintaining harmony and prosperity.
The courtesy visit underscored the collaborative relationship between the Governor and the Premier, ensuring that governance and development agendas remain aligned with the aspirations of Sarawakians.
