KUCHING, 20 January 2025 – In a heartwarming celebration of Chinese New Year 2025, Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) Sungai Maong, in collaboration with Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU), hosted a Mandarin Lime Distribution Ceremony on Sunday evening. The vibrant event took place in front of Chonglin Plaza, Jalan Green, drawing a cheerful crowd.

Dato Hilmy Othman, Mayor of DBKU, officiated the ceremony, which aimed to strengthen the bond between the multi-racial communities in the Sungai Maong area. Mandarin limes, a traditional symbol of prosperity and good fortune, were handed out to local residents as a gesture of goodwill and unity.

Addressing the audience, Dato Hilmy Othman said, “This initiative represents our shared commitment to promoting harmony in Kuching’s diverse community. Festivals like Chinese New Year remind us of the beauty of unity in diversity.”

The evening also featured the inauguration of Chinese New Year-themed streetlights, illuminating the roads managed by DBKU with festive brilliance. These decorations, introduced by Dato Hilmy, add to the joyous atmosphere in Kuching as families prepare for the Lunar New Year celebrations.

Prominent figures in attendance included Dato Richard Wee Liang Chiat, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Divisions, DBKU Council Member Sih Hua Tong, and Deputy Director of Development and Landscape Services Department Durie Austine Tinggie.
