SARATOK – A batik python was safely captured near the security guardhouse of SMK Agama Saratok on 15 June 2026, following swift action by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).
The emergency call was received by APM Saratok District after the snake was spotted close to the school compound.
Concerned about the safety of students and staff, three members of the Charlie Squad were immediately deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team identified the reptile, which measured approximately five feet in length. Using specialised equipment designed for handling wildlife, the officers managed to secure the python without incident.
The operation was carried out smoothly, and the area was declared safe before the team returned to the District Operations Centre.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident. The successful capture ensured that the school environment remained secure, preventing any potential harm to those within the compound.
Wildlife encounters such as this are not uncommon in Sarawak, where snakes occasionally enter populated areas in search of food or shelter.
Officials have reminded the public to remain cautious and to report sightings of dangerous animals immediately to the relevant agencies. APM Saratok highlighted the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safety.
The agency reaffirmed its readiness to respond to similar emergencies, stressing that trained personnel and proper equipment are essential in handling wildlife safely.
The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance, particularly in areas close to forests or rivers where snakes are more likely to be found.
Schools and residential communities have been encouraged to monitor their surroundings and seek assistance promptly if they encounter potentially dangerous animals.
By acting quickly and following established procedures, APM Saratok demonstrated its commitment to protecting the public and ensuring that educational institutions remain safe spaces for students and staff.
