Padungan, Kuching – The spirit of Chinese New Year (CNY) came alive in Padungan with a heartwarming alms-giving event for senior citizens aged 75 and above. Organized with the generous support of Mayor WEE HONG SENG 黄鸿圣, Cr Liew Leongyee, Cr Eric Tay Tze Kok, Penghulu Annkee Giam, Kapitan Dato Philip Hii, Kapitan Kui Hua Kueh, Kapitan Tony Wee, and the dedicated JKKK team, the event was a celebration of care and gratitude for the community’s elderly.
A total of 100 senior citizens were blessed with festive goodies, including angpows, a bag of rice, and a pair of mandarin oranges – staples of prosperity and health during the Chinese New Year season. These simple yet meaningful gifts brought smiles to the recipients, marking the occasion with warmth and goodwill.
Mayor Wee Hong Seng expressed his gratitude to the sponsors and supporters for making the event a success. “This alms-giving tradition not only helps our senior citizens but also reminds us of the importance of sharing joy and blessings during this festive season,” he said.
A special thanks was extended to the event sponsors for their generous financial contributions, which made it possible to spread joy to the elderly. The collaborative effort among local leaders, community representatives, and sponsors demonstrated the collective spirit that defines the Padungan community.
