BAU – The Bau District Civil Defence Force (APM Bau) responded to an emergency call on Wednesday afternoon after a rat snake was spotted at Bau Hospital.
The District Operation Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed that the alert was received at 4.27pm, following reports from members of the public regarding the presence of the reptile.
The case was classified as a KMU (snake catching) incident, prompting immediate mobilisation of civil defence personnel to the hospital grounds.
Upon arrival, officers carried out a careful inspection of the area to locate and safely capture the snake. Rat snakes, though non-venomous, can cause alarm due to their size and sudden movements.
They are commonly found in both rural and urban environments, often seeking shelter in buildings or vegetation.
While generally harmless to humans, their presence in public facilities such as hospitals requires swift intervention to prevent panic and ensure safety.
The Bau Hospital, which serves as a key healthcare facility for the district, continued operations while the situation was managed.
Staff and visitors were advised to remain calm as the Civil Defence team worked to secure the area. The snake was successfully removed without incident, allowing normal activities to resume.
This case highlights the diverse nature of emergencies handled by APM Bau, ranging from wildlife encounters to disaster response.
The unit’s readiness and rapid action reflect its commitment to protecting community welfare and maintaining public confidence in local safety measures.
Authorities reminded residents that reporting such cases promptly is essential to avoid risks. The public is encouraged to contact APM Bau directly at 082-762925 or use the national emergency line 999 when faced with similar situations.
The incident underscores the importance of vigilance in community spaces and the role of emergency services in addressing unexpected hazards.
By responding quickly and effectively, the Civil Defence Force continues to safeguard Sarawak’s districts against potential threats, ensuring both safety and peace of mind for residents.
