JULAU – The Julau District Civil Defence Force (APM Julau) successfully rescued an owl on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, after receiving a complaint from the public about the bird’s condition near the Meradong Julau District Council (MDMJ) area.
Upon arrival, APM members discovered that the owl, a protected species, had sustained a broken wing and was unable to fly.
The team acted swiftly to secure the bird and ensure it was handled with care before arranging for further assistance.
The injured owl was subsequently handed over to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in Sibu for medical treatment and rehabilitation.
SFC plays a crucial role in safeguarding wildlife across Sarawak, ensuring that protected animals receive proper care and, where possible, are returned to their natural habitats.
Owls are an important part of Sarawak’s ecosystem, serving as natural pest controllers by feeding on rodents and insects.
However, they are vulnerable to injuries caused by human activity, environmental hazards, or accidents. The rescue highlights the importance of community vigilance in reporting cases involving wildlife, especially protected species.
APM Julau emphasised its commitment to serving the community under its guiding principles of “Malaysia Madani”, “Serving the Nation”, and “Ready and Fast with Integrity”.
The unit continues to respond to a wide range of emergencies, from human assistance cases to wildlife rescues, reflecting its dedication to public safety and environmental stewardship.
Residents are reminded that reporting wildlife emergencies promptly ensures that animals receive timely intervention.
The collaboration between APM and SFC demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in protecting Sarawak’s biodiversity.
This incident underscores the role of emergency services not only in safeguarding people but also in preserving the natural environment.
By acting quickly and responsibly, APM Julau reinforced its commitment to community service and the protection of Sarawak’s rich wildlife heritage.
