The nest, which was lodged on the ceiling of the house, was reported by concerned members of the public who feared for the safety of the occupants.

Hornets are known for their aggressive behaviour when disturbed, and their stings can cause severe reactions, making immediate intervention necessary. Upon arrival, APM personnel assessed the situation and prepared the required equipment.

The nest, roughly the size of a takraw ball, was destroyed using a specialised spray method designed to neutralise hornets effectively while minimising risk to residents and responders.

The operation was completed without incident, and no injuries were reported. Cases involving hornets and other stinging insects are not uncommon in Sarawak’s rural and coastal districts, where vegetation and wooden structures provide suitable nesting sites.

While these insects play a role in natural ecosystems, their presence in homes and public spaces often requires professional removal to prevent harm.

The Civil Defence Force regularly undertakes such operations, ranging from snake rescues to bee nest removals, reflecting its broad responsibility in safeguarding communities.

The agency’s readiness and rapid response are vital in ensuring that environmental hazards do not escalate into dangerous situations.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and to report similar cases promptly. Early reporting allows trained personnel to act quickly, reducing risks and ensuring safety.

The Civil Defence Force continues to uphold its principles of integrity, speed, and preparedness in serving the public.
